What is a slap shot? a very powerful, fast-moving shot

The LEM230 is the latest addition to our professional services line of ammunition. A 230 grain 73 caliber 12 gauge slug. The slug is manufactured in 3 inch and 2-3/4 inch shells. This is a SlapShot style design utilizing a broad faced format to facilitate efficient energy transfer into a target. The design of the projectile enables effective and accurate use out of smooth bore shotguns and fully rifled shotguns. Test shooters fired sub 1 inch groups at 25 meters with a fully rifled shotgun. A test requiring the shooter to be able to stack three shots on top of each other at 25 yards put the ammunition, gun, and shooter to the test. A sub 1 inch group with a .73 inch slug requires shot to shot consistency. In velocity tests the LEM230 ammunition’s shot to shot efficiency was between 1.9% and 2.4% of average velocity. The 3 inch (2.4% efficiency) had an average velocity of 2327 FPS and the 2-3/4 (1.9% efficiency) was 2269 FPS. The test gun was a fully rifled 22 inch Savage 212 bolt action. Additionally significant testing was done with a semiautomatic10 inch smooth bore shotgun that produced sub 3 inch groups at 20 meters. We also created a custom round for Genesis Arms that clocks out at over 2400 FPS and barely makes the genesis breath hard.

SS4K Fastest 12 Gauge Slug On The Planet
We completely redesigned our SS4K to ensure reliable power. During the re-design we discovered a way to push our 78 grain projectile over 5100 FPS. The proprietary technique that let us break 5100 FPS caused us to rethink our entire approach. At 5100+ FPS the pressures were manageable but velocity was erratic. Ranging from 4800, to 5100+. It is our technique to work down from a max rather than push a max that is inefficient. Now armed with the new information we created our SS4K-78 with an average velocity of 4086 FPS and SS4K-72 with an average velocity of 4019 FPS. The fastest round utilizes a 78 grain .73 caliber slug the slower utilizes a flat nosed 72 grain slug optimized for over penetration mitigation. The difference in shape effected the shot to shot consistency. The SS4k-78 velocity fluctuated one percent (48 FPS) above or below its average velocity of 4086 FPS and the SS4K-72 fluctuate 2% (80 FPS). The gun used for final evaluation was a Savage 212 fully rifled bolt action shotgun. Both rounds are intended for use in fully rifled shotguns. Our tests and reports from varmint hunters have shown our high velocity slug rounds are effective and accurate at ranges 30 to 60 yards depending on the gun, slug design, and shooter. Many repeat customers report the 72 grain slug works well in their smooth bore home defense shotguns and they feel confident using the 72 grain slug at home defense distances which are measured in feet not yards.
